This month the theme is “Music and Memory.” Has a tune ever brought it all home for you? Or was there a moment in your life that a song popped up like a street sign, seeming to tell you what to do? Was your band chaos? Did you ever sing to someone or did anyone ever sing to you?

It’s story time at Senior Duncan in Almagro. Just $20p with drinks and food available.

You can also RSVP on our Facebook event page.

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, June 2
Price: $20 ARG

Kate here. Well, let me start this announcement out by saying that I have loved directing Second Story. I’ve learned a lot, met loads of great people, had so much fun, and enjoyed all of your stories. I’m leaving the country May 10th, so this is the last Second Story event I’ll be emceeing. I’d love to make it a big, crazy, fun night, so if you have missed a lot of events but intend to be there, please mark your calendar.

It looks like the show will go on with a rotating set of people at the helm, but we shall see.

This month, the theme is Roomies: Stories About Living Together.

Please get in touch with me at kcrimini[at]gmail[dot]com to let me know if you’re planning on telling a story. If you are a first-time storyteller, you will have to discuss your story with me, so please get in touch as soon as possible.

You can also RSVP on our Facebook event page.

The time has come, the phantom said, to talk of many things, like death and haunts and poltergeists, of ghosts in the machines.

April 7th’s event is all about the paranormal: things that go bump in the night, voices in your head, other-worldly messages, objects that move by themselves. Maybe there’s a ghost story in your family that you want to tell. Maybe you heard or saw something that you still can’t believe. Maybe you know someone who said their house was haunted. Maybe you went on a ghost tour and got in a fight with the douche running it. Whatever you think fits into the theme does.

I would like to take this moment to especially thank Sonya and Nikki for taking care of the logistics last month. This month, I’m hosting (or ghosting — however you want to look at it). Boo! I look forward to seeing you there.

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, April 7
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Paranormal

If you want to tell a story, please get in touch with me at kcrimini[at]gmail[dot]com. First time storytellers are required to attend a workshop (free) or discuss their stories with me in advance via Skype. I will have to hear from you before April Fools’ Day if you would like to participate.

Hey there. This month, storyteller extraordinaire Sonya Kunawicz is hosting and the show is migrating to the first Sunday of the month, March 3rd.

The theme this month is Grudge. Everyone has one, and some of us have a higher than average number against us. Want to satisfy that itch to sling shit at your enemies in front of a crowd? As long as the shit is metaphorical, bring it! Nothing is off limits and bitterness is not required.

If you’d like to tell a story and have never done so with us before, you will have to discuss and workshop your story with me (Kate Sedgwick). Reach me ASAP at kcrimini[at]gmail[dot]com to arrange a Skype session to prepare for the show, and I’ll put you in touch with Sonya.

Show Details:

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, March 3
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Grudge

Hey, my little chickadees. It’s been too long, and I was remiss in announcing our December hiatus. Chalk it up to my sweltering exhaustion and let’s move on, shall we?

This month’s event is for celebrating encouragement. Was there a time that you’d almost given up, but got a second wind somehow? Did it come from within or from someone else? What gave you the nudge to keep things going?

Or maybe you encouraged someone else to either disappointing or effective results?

Or maybe you were a cheerleader? Or just made your boyfriend dress up like one? Or had a crush on one?

Do you know what a Bronx cheer is? Could be about that, too.

As always, the theme is as wide open as Goatse, so interpret it however you like.

Deets:

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, Jan. 27
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Cheer! Stories of Encouragement

If you want to tell a story, please get in touch with me at kcrimini[at]gmail[dot]com. First time storytellers are required to attend a workshop (free) or discuss their stories with me in advance via Skype. I will have to hear from you before Jan. 23rd if you would like to participate.

This is a last-minute update. Tonight our performers will be:

The ever-witty Sonya Kunawicz
The popular Beatrice Murch
The energetic Christian Orué
The hilarious Matt Dicob
Deadpan hilarity from Katherine Thonvold
and your emcee, Kate Sedgwick (that’s me!)

It’s a small bill, so why not bring something for Absurdly Out Loud? That’s the portion of the evening dedicated to reading things from the internet that were never meant to be heard aloud and we invite audience participation.

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, Nov. 25
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Oh, shit!

Lordy, I’m late posting this, and for that I’m sorry.

Our next event’s theme is Oh, Shit. Things could get scatological — or maybe there’ll be stories about those inverse eureka moments — or some combination thereof. Whatever happens, it should be interesting.

These are the details I know now:

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, Nov. 25
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Oh, shit!

If you want to tell a story, please get in touch with me at kate[at]matadornetwork[dot]com. Because I’m so late with this announcement, I don’t know that there will be time for a workshop, which is usually required for first-time storytellers, but we might be able to work something out over Skype, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to go up this month.

Hey all. Last night’s benefit for The Argentina Independent was a lot of fun, and a great chance to showcase some of our strongest storytellers. This Sunday’s show will feature three of the four storytellers from last night’s event (with different stories) along with a few others.

October’s theme is Caught, and the show will feature:

The crowd-pleasing wit of Sonya Kunawicz
Hosting and story by Kate Sedgwick (that’s me)
The narrative stylings of Carla Cambiasso Helfer
Expert storyteller in truth and fiction Daniel Schweimler
A suspenseful near death experience from Rosie Hilder
The deadpan hilarity of Katherine Thonvold

Please bring some ridiculous internet finds for Absurdly Out Loud, the portion of the evening dedicated to elevating found writing from the web to humorous performance. Any audience member can participate, just remember to keep it on the short side (about 3 minutes is right).

Time: 9PM
Date: Sunday, Oct. 28
Price: $20 ARG
Location: Senior Duncan: Rivadavia 3832 in Almagro.
Theme: Caught

I hope to see you there!

I’m excited to announce that Second Story BsAs will be doing a mini show to benefit the Argentina Independent at BA Book Lovers Night at La Tribu (Lambare 823, just blocks from the Gallardo subway stop on the red line). Doors open at 9, stories start at 10.

With us that evening will be Rick Powell, Sonya Kunawicz, Kate Sedgwick (that’s me), and new (to Second Story BsAs) storyteller Carla Cambiasso Helfer.

100% of Second Story’s portion of the door charge will benefit Rick Powell as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

Come out and hear readings from the finalists of the Argentina Independent’s fiction contest, and bring some books to trade. You can RSVP at the Facebook event page. Tickets are $20 pesos at the door and $15 with advance reservations if you write to the address in the flyer above.

Onward and upward: our last event at Senior Duncan was fun, if a little quiet, but I noticed good service and a friendly vibe made a great atmosphere for some entertaining stories. So here’s what I know about our next event:

Sunday, October 28 at 9PM, we’ll be at it again with Caught as the theme. No word on the lineup yet.

If you’d like to tell a story with us, but never have before, please get in touch with me (at kate[at]matadornetwork[dot]com) about attending this month’s workshop. Attendance is mandatory for first-time storytellers. The tentative date is the evening of Thursday, Oct. 18, though this is still flexible.
